Last weekend I had a girlfriend visiting from St. Petersburg and her inner artist has recently been playing with watercolors as well.
We spent most of our Saturday ravaging the clearance sale at the local arts supply store. Once home, though exhausted, we pushed through and engaged our overloaded senses in what turned into a full afternoon and evening of painting!
I had to take a break for a ten-mile run at 8 p.m. (I’m training for a half marathon next weekend) and when I returned we cooked dinner and sat back down for another hour of painting before bed. It was so fun to share the creative experience with someone. We’re both beginners so we just talked about the process and learned along the way.
We’d picked up some loose watercolor canvases at the sale so after we sifted through our bags of goodies we put on some Joni Mitchell and got to work. I have no clue where I was going with this but I scored majorly on red, yellow and pink watercolor tubes (ten cents each!) so I just started playing, layering and eventually mixing and blending:
I’d like to go back in to the piece and add more layers; so for now, this piece is a work in progress. Hope everyone is having a fun, creative week.
